Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

After returning home from a nine-game road trip, the Sky Sox downed the visiting Portland Beavers 7-1 on Saturday evening at Security Service Field in front of 2,933 fans. The victory was the first for the Sox at home after suffering through an 0-4 opening home stand to start the season. Alberto Arias (1-1) picked up his first Triple-A win after giving up just one run over 5.1 innings and Ryan Ketchner was tagged with the loss after surrendering two runs on nine hits over six innings. Jentry Beckstead, who just joined the Sox from Double-A Tulsa earlier in the day, tossed the two final innings of the game to pick up his first save of the year.

The Sky Sox got on the board first in the fourth. Ian Stewart led off the inning with a perfect bunt single to third and came around to score three batters later on a RBI single by catcher Edwin Bellorin.

In the fifth, the Sox struck again as Seth Smith got things started in the inning with a four-pitch walk. After Ryan Spilborghs popped out to third, Stewart doubled to move Smith to third and Portland intentionally walked Sean Barker to load the bases. Joe Koshanksy then lifted a sac fly to right to drive in his 10th run of the season to make the score 2-0.

Portland cut the lead in half at 2-1 in the sixth as Craig Stansberry led off with a single and scored on a Vince Sinisi double off of Sox starter Arias.

Barker made the scored 3-1 in the seventh with a one-out, opposite field homer off of reliever Mike Thompson. The Sox would threaten further in the inning a pair of singles but a pair of force out groundouts ended the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Sox blew the game open as they batted around and plated four runs on three hits. Jayson Nix led off the inning with a single but the Beavers got two quick outs before the scoring barrage began. Stewart walked and scored along with Nix when Barker smashed a two-run triple to left-center field to drive in his second and third runs of the evening. Koshansky followed up with a RBI double to plate Barker and came around to score on a double by Bellorin who finished the night 4-for-5 with two RBI.

Tomorrow's 1:05 PM game will feature RHP Byung-Hyun Kim starting for the Sky Sox on a Major League rehab assignment against RHP Jared Wells (0-2, 5.93).
