Headlines: McDougall with two hits; Rupe strong again; Dominguez goes tonight
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Tucson Sidewinders are the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1969.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their series with Tucson . The RedHawks are 5-10 on Thursdays. A loss today and an Albuquerque win would put the RedHawks eight games out of first for the second time this year [July 18].
STANDINGS: The RedHawks are in third place, seven games behind Albuquerque .
LAST GAME: Tucson scored the game's only run on a double by Brian Barden in the sixth inning. The RedHawks had a chance to tie the game in the seventh, but Manny Alexander was thrown out at the plate. Oklahoma starter Josh Rupe went seven innings and gave up one run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Marshall McDougall went two-for-four with a double. It was the second 1-0 loss for the RedHawks this year. The first came on opening day at Memphis .
VS. TUCSON: The RedHawks are 23-22 against Tucson and 10-15 at TEP all-time. Last year the Sidewinders took three of four from the RedHawks in Tucson . Jason Conti went 7-for-18 with two doubles for the RedHawks in four games against the Sidewinders last season.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Oklahoma's Juan Dominguez makes hs fifth start of the year for the RedHawks. He earned the win in his last outing by allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts in five innings. He didn't allow a runner past first base. Lefty Mark Freed starts for Tucson . This is the fourth straight game the RedHawks have faced a left-handed starter. They are 1-2 in the previous three games.
STREAKERS: Outfielder Chris Richard is on a season-high 10-game hitting streak dating back to July 16. He is 13-for-35 [.371] with nine RBIs during the streak, raising his average from .251 to .270 ... Infielder Marshall McDougall is on a season-high 11-game hitting streak dating back to June 28. He is 17-for-41 [.415] with 15 RBIs during the streak, raising his average from .320 to .340. He is also on a nine-game road hitting streak ... Infielder Esteban German is on a nine-game hitting streak dating back to July 19. He is 15-for-42 [.357] with four RBIs during the streak, raising his average from .320 to .324.
DESERT ROAD TRIP: The RedHawks were 2-6 on their road trip to Tucson and Las Vegas last season. Both wins were by Juan Dominguez. Dominguez is scheduled to start the third game of this series and the series finale in Las Vegas . Last year he won the third game in Tucson and the last game in Vegas for his two wins.
BULLPEN: In the last nine games, the bullpen is 1-0-3 with a 0.95 ERA [3ER, 28.1IP] with 11 walks and 21 strikeouts. Michael Tejera has given up the only runs by the bullpen in the last nine games: A single by Rick Short in the ninth inning July 21 at New Orleans and two runs in the eighth inning July 26 at Tucson .
CHAD ALLEN: In his last eight games, Chad Allen is 14-for-37 [.378] with four doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs. He has hits in six of those games, all multi-hit games. He has four two-hit games and two three-hit games in his last eight games.
ATTENDANCE: Through 51 home openings, the RedHawks have drawn 400,180 fans, an average of 7,846. Last year, they averaged 6,678 fans. In 1998, they averaged a franchise-record 7,192.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: The RedHawks have used 30 pitchers so far this season. They used 30 all of last season ... Last night's quality start by Josh Rupe was the first by a RedHawk other than Derek Lee since Ryan Snare's quality start June 28 against Nashville. Lee had quality starts June 30 against Iowa , July 10 at Omaha and July 20 at New Orleans .
