Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis erased a six run deficit and came back to beat Sacramento 8-7 Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds trailed 7-3 going into the bottom of the eighth but scored five runs to lead 8-7 after eight innings. C Robinson Cancel delivered the clutch hit with two outs in the eighth with a single to score SS John Nelson to put the âBirds on top for good. Cancel was the hero on the night with two home runs and three RBI on the night. RF Reggie Taylor led the inning off with a single and LF Raul Gonzalez followed with a double. One batter later, with the bases loaded, 2B Bo Hart hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor. Hart went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the game. Two Sacramento errors aided in the rally and led to three runs.
Reliever Bill Pulsipher (4-6) earned the win with four scoreless innings. The southpaw allowed five hits and fanned five. Starter Chris Gissell lasted four plus innings after allowing seven runs on 11 hits with six K's. Britt Reames (4-4) took the loss for the River Cats allowing two runs, unearned, on one hit. Reliever Ricky Stone picked up the save, his fifth, after striking out the side in the ninth.
The âBirds and Cats will conclude their series tomorrow night. Prospects RHP Adam Wainwright (6-7) of Memphis and LHP Dan Meyer (1-6) of Sacramento will face off with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
