RedHawks blanked in Tucson 1-0

July 28, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release

A sixth inning double by Tucson's Brian Barden brought home the game's only run Wednesday night as the Sidewinders beat Oklahoma 1-0. Tucson has won the first two games of this series and five straight overall.

RedHawks starter Josh Rupe (2-6) had his second straight excellent outing, taking the loss despite allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings.

Wednesday's game time of 2:01 was the team's second shortest of the year for a nine-inning game, longer than only the RedHawks' other 1-0 loss on opening night April 7 at Memphis.

Tucson starter Chris Michalak (7-10) pitched into the ninth inning and combined with Jason Bulger for the six-hit shutout. Michalak left with one out in the ninth and a runner at first. Bulger coaxed Marshall McDougal into a game-ending double play ball for his fourth save.

The RedHawks, now 51-54, wil call on righthander Juan Dominguez Thursday in game three of the series. Dominguez won Oklahoma's only game in Tucson last year and it also came in game three. Lefty Mark Freed will pitch for Tucson. Game time is 9:00 p.m. CDT and the broadcast can be heard on Super Talk 930 WKY and Sportsjuice.com.
