Oklahoma City Comets News Release

TONIGHT: The RedHawks will try to square their record for the series and trip with the second of a 4-game set at Iowa. The Cubs won Game 1 last night 4-2. OKC is 2-3 on this swing through Omaha and Iowa and has dropped consecutive road games for just the second time this season. OKC leads the American South Division by 2 games over Albuquerque. Iowa is fourth, 6.5 back of Nashville in the American North. Tommy Hunter will make his second start of the season after starting the year on the DL with a strained left oblique. Casey Coleman goes for Iowa.

A COLD WALK: OKC drew a season-high 9 walks last night as wind chills hovered around 40 degrees in a 4-2 loss in the series opener. The RedHawks have been restrained to 3 runs on 12 hits, 11 of them singles, in the last 2 games, both of which were losses to match their longest road losing streak of the season. OKC matched its season high by leaving 14 men on base. The previous high was established in a 13-inning game on opening night.

BULLPEN BASHERS: The RedHawks have scored more runs against opposing teams' bullpens than starting staffs this season. Of OKC's league-leading 170 runs, 91 have been against relievers, with 79 charged to starters. OKC has collected 137 hits in 97.1 innings against the league's collective relief corps, while amassing 147 hits in 159 innings vs. starters. The RedHawks have failed to score against an opponents' bullpen just 6 times in 29 games, going 1-5 in those contests. OKC has gone 2 games without scoring against the combined relievers of Iowa and Omaha.

STILL SALTY: Jarrod Saltalamacchia extended his hitting streak to 13 games with 2 hits in 4 official at bats last night. Saltalamacchia's streak is the best by a RedHawk this year and the third longest in the league this season. Only Colorado Springs' Matt Miller, at 16 games, has a longer active streak. Miller and Memphis' Jon Jay (April 8-24) share the league's longest hitting streak at 16 games. During the current streak, Saltalamacchia is 20-for-52 (.385) with 3 homers and 9 RBIs.

TOTING THE LUMBER: OKC leads the PCL with 170 runs, 20 more than runner up Reno. The RedHawks lead the PCL in home runs (29), slugging percentage (.450) and triples (14), while second in on-base percentage (.359) and team batting (.284). The RedHawks have out-scored the opposition 170-118, owning the best run differential (+52) in the league.

MOUND PRESENCE: OKC's 3.32 ERA is second behind Nashville's 2.96. OKC pitchers have the second-most strikeouts (215) behind Sacramento's 217. The RedHawks have allowed the fourth-fewest home runs (18). Round Rock (17), Reno (15) and Tacoma (15) have allowed fewer gopher balls. Derek Holland leads the PCL in ERA at 0.93 (see table below), while Michael Kirkman is sixth at 1.82. Brandon McCarthy, on the DL since April 26, is 12th at 2.51.

NO BOBBLES: OKC has played 4 straight errorless games, their longest such streak of the season. For the year, the RedHawks are 7-8 in games with an error and 10-4 when errorless.

DAILY HOLLAND UPDATE: Derek Holland's 0.93 ERA ranks ninth in all of professional baseball (majors, affiliated minors and Mexico) among those with enough innings to qualify for the ERA race in their particular league. Here are the top ERA qualifiers to date:
