Donnie Murphy drilled a two run home run to break a 2-2 tie in the 7th inning as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Omaha Royals 6-3 on Saturday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. Danny Richar led the Z's hitting attack with three of the 14 hits in the game. Jorge Sosa limited the Royals to 3 hits in five and a third innings but did not factor in the decision. Game Notes: Doug Mientkiewicz joined the Zephyrs on Saturday, he was signed by the Marlins as a free agent. The first basemen went 0x4 with a walk but the former gold glove award winner made a few impressive defensive plays in his debut. Six of the nine Z's hitters had multi hit games for the Zephyrs.
Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Omaha meet in the second of the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35. The Z's will start RH Brad Stone (0-0, 3.00) against former Zephyr RH Philip Humber (2-2, 4.25). RADIO: 106.1 FM WMTI.
