Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Blue came up short in the final seconds to the Idaho Stampede, 91-89, on Thursday at the Cox Convention Center. Oklahoma City Thunder forward Mitch McGary, on assignment with the Blue, scored 11 points with five rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Fellow assignment player Josh Huestis totaled five points and six boards in 35 minutes.
Marquis Teague registered a season-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with five assists and four rebounds. Dakari Johnson scored a career-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. JP Tokoto totaled 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals while Boubacar Moungoro added 11 points off the bench.
In a game that featured 15 lead changes, the Blue erased a seven-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Stampede 27-19 in the third quarter. The Blue and Stampede were locked at 81-81 entering the final three minutes before McGary put the Blue ahead on a three-pointer. The Stampede responded with a 7-0 run to lead 88-84 with 1:14 to play. Oklahoma City's defense and three made free throws from Johnson brought the Blue to within one with 13.3 seconds left.
Idaho's Tibor Pleiss made a pair of foul shots before Huestis sank a put-back layup on the next possession. After the Blue fouled immediately, Pleiss put the Stampede up by two on a free throw with just over three seconds remaining, setting up one final play for the Blue. Oklahoma City found Talib Zanna in the corner for a 22-foot three-point attempt that fell short as the buzzer sounded.
"Our team continues to experience growth and our players are getting better individually and collectively," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "I thought we were really competitive defensively and that Idaho really had to earn the plays that they got. Offensively, save for one stretch in the first half, I thought our connectedness was really good. We fell two points short, that's part of competition. All we can control is how we play and how we can grow throughout this season and I feel like we are on the right track there."
Oklahoma City (0-8) recorded 46 rebounds, led by ten off the bench from Zanna.
Idaho (3-7) was led by Treveon Graham with 17 points and six boards.
The Blue is back in action on Saturday when it hosts the Westchester Knicks at the Cox Convention Center. Tickets for the 7 p.m. contest are available on OklahomaCityBlue.com.
