Oklahoma City Comets News Release
HIGHLIGHTS: The Oklahoma RedHawks beat the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-2 Tuesday Night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Nelson Cruz drove in three runs for the second straight day as Oklahoma got its fourth straight strong performance from a starting pitcher.
Oklahoma plated four runs in an inning for the third time during this series, scoring four in the third off of Zephyrs starter Brian Stokes. The first four RedHawk batters reached base on three singles and an error, and Ryan Robert capped the inning with a two-run triple. Oklahoma added one run in the fourth before New Orleans got on the board in the fifth with a pair of runs off Ramirez. The RedHawks added the game's final three runs in the eighth inning. John Mayberry led off the inning with a double, Taylor Teagarden drove in a run with a double one out later, and, after a Travis Metcalf strike out, Drew Meyer walked. Jason Ellison brought home Teagarden and Meyer with the RedHawks second triple of the game for the seventh and eighth Oklahoma runs.
Ramirez (5-3) notched the win, while Stokes (4-5) took the loss. Cruz led Oklahoma with three hits and three runs batted in. Teagarden's double extended his hitting streak to 12 games, matching Ellison's RedHawks-high April hitting streak. Oklahoma has outscored New Orleans 20-5 through the first two games of this season matchup.
The RedHawks and Zephyrs take Wednesday off as the Big 12 Conference Championship starts at the Brick, and close out this three game series Thursday at 11:05 am.
