Padres Recall Thatcher, Place Peavy On Disabled List

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today placed right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 15) with a right elbow strain and recalled Portland left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher.

The 26-year-old Thatcher has made two relief appearances with the Beavers, posting a 9.00 ERA (2er, 2.0ip) with four strikeouts and one walk. The left-hander began the season with the Padres and went 0-4 with a 6.75 ERA (13er, 17.1ip), 12 strikeouts and seven walks in 16 relief appearances before he was optioned to Portland on May 11.

Peavy, 26, is 4-3 with one complete game and a 2.91 ERA (19er, 58.2ip) in nine starts for the Padres this season. The 2007 National League Cy Young Award winner ranks third among National League pitching leaders with 60 strikeouts.
