
Sidewinders Stymied in Portland

Portland, OR - The Portland Beavers scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings on their way to a 4-1 win over the Sidewinders on Tuesday afternoon.
The Beavers got their first run on a Phil Avlas error in the second, one of four Tucson miscues in the game. Chip Ambres doubled home a run in the third, Peter Ciofrone posted a RBI double in the fourth and Michael Barrett delivered a run scoring two base hit in his pinch hitting appearance in the sixth.
Billy Buckner was tagged with the loss. Buckner allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. It is his first defeat since April 29th.
The Sidewinders scored their only run in the top of the third. Buckner doubled with one out and scored on Emilio Bonifacio's single up the middle.
Cesar Ramos pitched six innings of three hit, one run baseball to earn his fifth win. Jared Wells pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the season.
The Sidewinders and Beavers play game three of their series on Wednesday morning at PGE Park. Right-hander Juan Gutierrez (1-7, 5.10) starts for Tucson against former Sidewinders right-hander Enrique Gonzalez (0-2, 5.19) for Portland. First pitch is at 11:05. The game will air LIVE on the internet at www.tucsonsidewinders.com beginning at 10:55 and on a tape delayed basis at 7:00 on COOL 1450.
