Today's Game: The Dodgers try to avoid a fifth straight home loss as they continue their series against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks will follow tonight's game, presented by squeezeeverydrop.com.
Last Game: Round Rock overcame an early deficit and went on to win, 9-3, Thursday night in Bricktown. Oklahoma City took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run triple from Scott Schebler. The Express answered with four runs in the top of the third inning. Beamer Weems and Ryan Strausborger hit back-to-back RBI doubles to knot the game, 2-2. The Express added two more runs on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Field and a two-out RBI single by Ed Lucas. In the top of the fourth, Round Rock took a 6-2 lead on RBI singles by Weems and Strausborger. In the bottom of the fourth, OKC got back within three after O'Koyea Dickson hit a RBI single. In the seventh, Michael Choice put Round Rock in front, 7-3, with a RBI single. The Express loaded the bases later in the inning and went ahead, 8-3, on a RBI single by Weems. Round Rock tacked on a run in the top of the ninth with a RBI double from Choice. Round Rock reliever Ross Wolf (8-5) got the win for the Express, allowing one run and three hits over 4.0 innings. Joe Wieland (5-4) was charged with the loss for Oklahoma City. He allowed six runs (four earned) and six hits over 4.0 innings. He issued two walks and struck out three.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Trevor Cahill makes his first start with the OKC Dodgers tonight...Cahill signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers June 30 after starting the season with the Atlanta Braves. He was designated for assignment June 11 and later released...He pitched one game for High-A Rancho Cucamonga July 12, tossing four scoreless and hitless innings, issuing two walks and striking out eight...Cahill also made one appearance for the Rookie-level AZL Dodgers since joining the organization...With the Braves this season, Cahill went 0-3 with a 7.52 ERA in 15 appearances (three starts) with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks over 26.1 IP. He was acquired by the Braves in an April 2 trade with Arizona...With the Diamondbacks last season, Cahill posted a 3-12 record with a 5.61 ERA in 31 games...He spent parts of four seasons with Arizona (2012-15) after six seasons in the A's Organization (2006-11)...The 2010 American League All-Star selection finished ninth in the AL Cy Young Award balloting that season, going 18-8 with a 2.97 ERA...Cahill was originally signed by the A's as a second-round pick in the July 2006 draft...Tonight marks his first career appearance against Round Rock.
Against the Express: 2015: 6-3 2014: 7-9 All-time: 89-79 In OKC: 43-42
After Round Rock won on Opening Night, the Dodgers have won six of the last eight meetings against the Express. Round Rock's first two victories this season were shutouts, both started by Anthony Ranaudo....The teams last met June 6-9 in Round Rock, with the Dodgers taking three of four games...Austin Barnes is batting .429 (12x28) against the Express with three homers and seven RBI over eight games. Kyle Jensen is batting .323 with six extra-base hits and nine RBI over eight games, and between this season and last year when he played for New Orleans, Jensen has batted .356 (32x90) with eight homers, one triple, 10 doubles, and 29 RBI over 23 games.
Winning Ways: Even though they have dropped six of their last nine games, the Dodgers continue to lead the PCL with 56 wins and have the fourth-most wins in the Minors behind Double-A Corpus Christi (58), High-A Visalia (57), and Low-A Quad Cities (57).
Wilk this Way: Andy Wilkins has hit safely in each of his last 12 starts, batting .386 (17x44) with 10 extra-base hits (4 HR, 6 2B) and 12 RBI. His current overall nine-game hitting streak is a season best. Despite not collecting his first homer or RBI with OKC until May 17, Wilkins leads the team 39 RBI and is tied for the team lead with 12 home runs. During that same period, Wilkins ranks second in the PCL in homers and is tied for fourth in RBI.
Dinger Details: The Dodgers did not homer last night, ending a season-best streak of 12 straight games with a home run. It's the first time they were kept inside the park since June 29 at Nashville. During the 12-game stretch, they racked up 25 dingers. Their 23 homers in July lead the PCL, and the recent power surge has pushed the team into a tie with Reno for second in the league with 90 homers this season (Las Vegas - 94)...On the other hand, the OKC pitching staff has not surrendered a homer in five straight games, and their 57 homers allowed this season are fewest in the PCL. If the Dodgers don't yield a homer tonight, they'll tie their season-long streak, done twice previously (last June 14-19).
All-Star Caliber: PCL All-Star Austin Barnes reached base three times yesterday, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. He leads the team and ranks eighth in the league with a .384 on-base percentage. Barnes has walked (28) more than he's struck out this season (25), and he is the fourth-hardest player to strike out in the league, whiffing just once every 9.84 plate appearances.
O' So Good: In each of his last five games, O'Koyea Dickson has hit safely and picked up at least one RBI. Over the five games, Dickson is 6-for-18 with two home runs and eight RBI. It's his longest RBI streak since Aug. 16-21, 2013 while playing for High-A Rancho Cucamonga (5 G, 9 RBI). He collected at least one RBI in a career-best six straight games Aug. 9-20, 2011 with Rookie-level Ogden (11 RBI).
Heisey Heating Up: Over his last seven games, Chris Heisey is 8-for-21 with two home runs, five RBI, and six runs scored. He has reached base safely in 14 of his last 25 plate appearances.
Unwelcome at Home: The Dodgers have lost four consecutive home games, and a loss tonight would tie their season-long home losing streak of five games (June 1-5). Pitching has been an issue during the skid, as OKC has allowed a total of 34 runs, with at least seven in each game. The staff has posted a 6.00 ERA (24 ER/36.0 IP) and opponents are batting .363 (57x157), including .328 (21x64) with runners in scoring position. The defense has committed nine errors, accounting for 10 unearned runs.
Error Message: The Dodgers committed a season-high four errors in last night, marking OKC's most errors in one game since June 9, 2012 when the team also committed four errors in a 12-7 loss to New Orleans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers have committed at least one error in eight of the last 10 games, totaling 16 errors during that time.
