
Charlie Manuel to be Inducted into Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame

Former Albuquerque Dukes outfielder Charlie Manuel will be inducted into the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame on July 25 during a pre-game ceremony at Isotopes Park. Manuel was elected by the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame committee for his contribution as a player in Albuquerque.
Manuel played for the Dukes in 1974 and 1975, collecting a combined 221 hits with a .327 batting average. He belted a career-high 30 home runs in 1974 and followed that up with 16 homers in just 81 games during 1975 season. His .601 slugging percentage in 1975 was tops in the Pacific Coast League. During his two-year stint in Albuquerque, Manuel collected 166 RBI in just 210 games and scored 122 runs.
Manuel would go on to enjoy a six-year Major League playing career and 12-year Major League managing career. At the helm of the Philadelphia Phillies from 2005 through 2013, Manuel led them to two National League pennants (2008, 2009) and a World Series title in 2008. He finished with 1,000 career wins and .548 winning percentage. Manuel is currently serves as a senior advisor to the Phillies General Manager.
The Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be part of the festivities surrounding Dukes Retro Night on Saturday, July 25 when the Isotopes take on the Sacramento River Cats at 7:05 pm. Manuel is scheduled to be on hand for the ceremony. In addition to the Hall of Fame enshrinement, the Isotopes will be wearing special mustard-yellow throw-back Dukes jerseys against the River Cats, and the game will be followed by a fireworks extravaganza (weather permitting).
The Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame honors players, managers, teams, executives and media members who have made a significant contribution to the development and success of the Nation's Pastime in the city of Albuquerque. Inductees to the Hall of Fame are determined by a special selection committee consisting of 14 various local Albuquerque baseball experts.
