Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - The Round Rock Express (53-38) come out on the losing end of a sluggish offensive contest as the Oklahoma City Dodgers (57-33) won game two at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Friday night, 3-2. The two clubs combined for seven total hits as the Dodgers evened the series at one game apiece.
Express 2B Hanser Alberto pierced the score sealing with a solo shot off of Oklahoma starter Trevor Cahill to lead off the third inning, giving him his third blast of the season. Cahill shook off the early blunder by retiring three straight batters to close the top half of the third.
Cahill's (0-0, 1.93) outing came to a close in the top of the fifth inning after 4.2 innings of work with two hits, one run (earned), one walk and three Ks. Southpaw Ian Thomas took over for Cahill and ended the top of the fifth with strikeout.
Both sides went silent in the fourth and fifth inning as Express starter Phil Klein found his groove. The Round Rock righty went 5.0 innings with two hits and three strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 0.91. Klein's (1-0, 0.91) shutout effort was entrusted to RHP Stolmy Pimentel who entered in the sixth inning. Pimentel began his night with a walk, but gathered the first out with a strikeout. Pimentel's outing turned on a dime when Dodgers DH Carl Crawford hit a single to center field, advancing walk beneficiary Darwin Barney to second. A balk from Pimentel put runners on second and third with SS Corey Seager at the plate. Seager launched a sacrifice fly to deep right that brought Barney home to tie the contest at 1-1. Oklahoma City CF Chris Heisey left the building three pitches later with his 13th homer of the year that broke the tie and gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. Pimentel stopped the bleeding with a strikeout to end the seventh.
Express RHP Roman Mendez came in for Pimentel and tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning to send the game into the ninth.
The E-Train showed life in the top of the ninth as 3B Joey Gallo propelled his fourth homer of the year to cut the Oklahoma City lead to 3-2. Dodgers closer Josh Ravin continued to give the E-Train hope by walking 1B Ed Lucas. The base on balls ended Ravin's night, forcing OKC to bring in RHP Juan Gonzalez. Gonzalez struck out C Brett Nicholas and used a game-ending double play to even the series at 1-1.
The Express and Dodgers continue tomorrow night with game three as RHP Alec Asher (2-5, 5.40) takes on Oklahoma City RHP Zach Lee (6-3, 2.34). The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
