Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Nashville, TN - Anthony Aliotti scored the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Nashville defeated Omaha, 4-3, in a back and forth affair Friday night in the second of four meetings in front of a sellout crowd of 10,688 at First Tennessee Park. The Storm Chasers slipped to 50-42 and eight games behind victorious Oklahoma City in the American Conference North Division.
Chris Dwyer opened the seventh on the hill for Omaha and retired the first four hitters he faced before Ryan Roberts hit a solo home run to move the Sounds into a short-lived 3-2 lead. Arnold Leon, a converted starter, was brought on to try to close it out for the hosts in the top of the ninth only to surrender a lead off long ball to Rey Fuentes that evened the count. Then, in the bottom half, Aliotti reached on a fielder's choice grounder with two outs before Niuman Romero dumped a base hit into left-center field that was kicked toward the line by Fuentes, allowing Aliotti to slide in safely with the decisive run just ahead of his throw home.
Nashville starter Zach Neal blanked the visitors on a lone base hit through the first four frames before Francisco Pena singled with two outs in the fifth and scored the first run of the night when Moises Sierra followed with a double. Miguel Almonte had matched what Neal had done but was his own worst enemy in the home half after hitting Dayan Viciedo to begin the inning before committing a pair of balks that advanced him to third base from where he scored on an Aliotti sacrifice fly that knotted the score. The highly-touted right-hander struck out a season-high eight and walked one over five frames in his Triple-A debut.
Matt Murray took over in the sixth and set down the first two hitters he encountered before issuing back to back walks that were followed by a Viciedo base hit that chased home Roberts to put Nashville in front, 2-1. The Chasers needed only two pitches to get the game even again in the seventh after Balbino Fuenmayor tripled and scored on a Cheslor Cuthbert single that was the last of five hits allowed over seven innings by Neal, who struck out one and did not walk a batter.
The series continues Saturday evening with Omaha right-hander Yohan Pino taking the mound against Nashville righty Cody Martin. Coverage of the game begins with the Metropolitan Community College pre-game show at 6:15 pm and can be heard on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
