Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their series against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m. looking to take a 2-0 lead in the four-game set and collect a third straight win overall.
Last Game: The Dodgers scored five runs between the eighth and ninth innings to break a tie and go on to defeat Omaha, 10-5, at Werner Park Monday night. The Dodgers had leads of 4-0 and 5-4, but the Storm Chasers battled back to pull even both times. The game was in a 5-5 tie heading to the eighth inning. With Kyle Farmer on third base with two outs and Connor Joe at the plate, Josh Staumont threw a wild pitch, allowing Farmer to score on a close play at the plate. Edward Paredes retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth, and the Dodgers rallied for four runs in the ninth after the bases were empty with two outs. Farmer hit a RBI ground rule double, and later with the bases loaded, Kyle Garlick lined a three-run triple to the right-center field gap. Joe Broussard pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to wrap up the win. The Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single by Jake Peter. OKC added to the lead in the fourth inning with three more runs, picking up four hits within five batters, including a RBI single by Edwin RÃos and two-run double by Will Smith. The Storm Chasers responded with a big inning, tallying six straight hits with one out, including four doubles, and producing four runs to tie the game. The Dodgers regained the lead in the seventh on a RBI single by Tim Locastro. But Omaha rallied with two outs in the home half of the frame, as Frank Schwindel doubled and Cam Gallagher followed with a RBI single. Brian Schlitter (6-1) allowed the tying run to score in the seventh, but received the winning decision. Staumont (1-4) took the loss after giving up two runs over two innings.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Daniel Corcino (2-3) has held opponents to one earned run or less in three of his last four outings...He most recently started Aug. 9 against Memphis in OKC, tossing a season-high 7.0 innings and holding the Redbirds to one run and four hits. He did not issue a walk and racked up a season-high nine strikeouts. He exited the game in a 1-1 tie and did not factor into the decision of the team's 2-1 loss. It was his longest outing since Aug. 17, 2014 and highest strikeout total since June 16, 2012, both while with Double-A Pensacola...This season as a starting pitcher, Corcino has a 1-3 record with a 3.61 ERA and .227 BAA over 14 starts. The team is 8-6 in his starts, having lost five of the last six after winning seven of the first eight. Despite several good outings, Corcino has not picked up a win in 13 straight starts...Corcino has also made two appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, reaching the Majors for the first time since 2014 with the Cincinnati Reds. On July 4, he was designated for assignment following a trade with Cincinnati and outrighted to OKC July 8...He was originally signed as an amateur free agent with the Reds Jan. 11, 2008 and began his second career stint in the Dodgers organization after signing as a free agent on May 11, 2017...Tonight is his third start of the season against Omaha. He has allowed five runs (four earned) and nine hits over a combined 9.0 innings, with four walks and 10 strikeouts in a pair of no decisions.
Against the Storm Chasers: 2018: 6-4 2017: 7-10 All-time: 155-142 At OMA: 76-73 The Dodgers and Omaha are meeting for their third series of the season and for the first time since late June at Werner Park...The division foes split their last series June 21-24 at Omaha. The Dodgers won two of the first three games before the Storm Chasers closed out the set with an 8-0 shutout...The Dodgers won their first series of the season against Omaha, 3-2, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, with the Dodgers winning the middle three meetings of the series...OKC has outscored Omaha, 58-56, through the first 10 meetings of the season, while both teams have tallied 106 hits...Edwin RÃos leads the Dodgers with 17 hits through 10 games, including five doubles, a home run, seven RBI and seven runs scored...The Storm Chasers won the 2017 season series, 10-7, marking the fifth time in seven years they won the season series, as well as the seventh time in 10 years...Entering today, the Dodgers have lost eight of their last 12 games at Werner Park...OKC is 1-5-1 in the season series since 2011.
Getting Offensive: The Dodgers have scored at least nine runs in back-to-back games and 19 total runs over two games for the first time since 9-3 and 10-6 wins June 6 and 7, respectively, in Sacramento...After being shut out Saturday night and held to seven total runs over their previous four games combined, the Dodgers offense has racked up 19 runs and 25 hits the last two nights combined, batting .347 (25x72) with 10 extra-base hits. Prior to Sunday, OKC had been held to two runs or less in nine of their last 14 games. They have gone 10-for-29 with runners in scoring position over the last two games after batting just .180 (9x50) with RISP over the previous five games combined...Entering Sunday night's game against Memphis in OKC, the Dodgers had scored in just five of the previous 36 innings, but over the last two nights, OKC has scored in nine of 17 innings.
Up and Down on the Mound: After shutting out Memphis Sunday night, the Dodgers allowed five runs Monday in Omaha, marking the eighth time in the last 10 games the Dodgers have allowed at least five runs...Omaha connected on 11 hits last night, as opponents have combined to bat .308 (112x364) over the last 10 games...The Dodgers haven't been able to avoid the big inning, with the opponent scoring four or more runs in one inning nine times, including at least once in six of the last eight games...Over the last 10 games, opponents have combined for 38 extra-base hits. The Dodgers had allowed two or fewer extra-base hits in 17 of the previous 18 games, including nine straight prior to Aug. 3.
Timmy Lo-Down: Tim Locastro reached base in four of his five plate appearances Monday night, including a RBI single, walk and two hit by pitches. He's now hit safely in five straight games and in eight of his last nine games, batting .394 (13-for-33) with four multi-hit efforts...He leads OKC with 14 hits and nine runs scored in August...He ranks fourth in the PCL with 16 HBP's this season and leads all of Triple-A with eight HBP's this month...Locastro also notched his team-best 15th stolen base of the season last night.
Along the RÃos Grande: Edwin Rios went 2-for-4 last night with a double, RBI and scored two runs...Monday marked his fifth multi-hit outing in eight games and he is batting .429 (12-for-28) during the stretch...He has 13 hits through 10 August games and is tied with Donovan Solano for a team-best seven RBI so far this month.
Around the Horn: Alex Verdugo has hit safely in 22 of his last 25 games with OKC, batting .371 (36x97) with 10 multi-hit games and 12 RBI. He paces the PCL with a .343 season batting average and leads OKC with 104 hits in 77 games...Kyle Farmer has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 10-for-31 (.323). He has seven doubles in his last 11 games and 17 doubles in 33 games with OKC since July 1 - most among all Triple-A batters and tied for the most overall in the Minors...Jake Peter went 1-for-3 with a RBI and run scored last night, and he has now hit safely in his last five starts, going 9-for-19 with three multi-hit efforts. His .248 season average is the highest it's been since June 21.
