Tulsa Oilers News Release
The Tulsa Oilers went 1-2-1 last week, and now stand at 18-22-10, 46 points, 5th place in the CHL's Northwest Division. Tulsa trails fourth-place Oklahoma City by 6 points.
The Oilers opened up their week hosting the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday. Dan Gravelle figured in on all four Oiler goals (2G, 2A), but the Eagles came out on top 5-4 in a shootout. Tulsa battled back from three-goal deficits twice in the game to earn the point in the standings. Wes Scanzano tallied three assists and Chris Page recorded two helpers in the game for Tulsa, who also got goals from Jordon Flodell and Shawn Scanzano. Greg Pankewicz and Igor Bondarevs each scored twice for Colorado, and Ryan Tobler assisted on all four regulation goals for the Eagles.
Next up were the Oklahoma City Blazers, who came to town on Friday looking to avenge a 6-2 loss to the Oilers last Saturday at the Ford Center. Dan Gravelle once again had a big night, recording 5 points (2G, 3A) as Tulsa outlasted Oklahoma City 8-5 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Todd Marcellus added 4 points (2G, 2A), and Jason Bermingham tallied 3 (2G, A) to lead the way for Tulsa. Goaltender Rod Branch stopped 50 shots to preserve the win for the Oilers. Wes and Shawn Scanzano each had three assists in the game, while Chris Page contributed a goal and an assist. Rob Meanchoff also lit the lamp for Tulsa, who matched its season-high output with 8 goals. Doug Sheppard scored twice, and Bryan Forslund had a goal and an assist in the loss for the Blazers.
Immediately after that game, the Oilers got on the bus and traveled up to Indianapolis for a pair of games with the Ice. Saturday night, Jason Bermingham and Nick Udovicic each found the net for Tulsa, but the Oilers fell 3-2 before a crowd of 5,775 at the Pepsi Coliseum. Jason Baird scored a goal and two assists for the Ice, who also got goals from Mario Doyon and Jared Dumba. Tim Kelleher stopped 27 Ice offerings, but took the loss.
Sunday, the Oilers concluded their week with the second game in Indy. Dan Gravelle got the Oilers out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Tulsa couldn't hold it, as Indianapolis came back to win 5-4. Chris Page and Jordon Flodell each recorded two assists for Tulsa, and Jason Bermingham and Rob Meanchoff scored again in the loss. Rod Branch turned away 27 shots in defeat for the Oilers.
