Oilers, Red Cross Sending Messages to Troops

March 10, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers and the American Red Cross have teamed up in a joint effort to send appreciation messages to members of our armed forces. When the Oilers host the Oklahoma City Blazers this Friday night at the Tulsa Convention Center, the Red Cross will be setting up a booth in the lobby where fans can send messages to troops stationed around the world via the Internet. Fans can also sign a banner to show their appreciation for local members of the armed forces. The banner will then be delivered to units that are on stand-by in and around the Tulsa area.

"We are assisting the Tulsa chapter of the American Red Cross in finding ways to ease the transition of deployment for our local military personnel and their loved ones," said Oilers director of community relations Susie Weinacht.

The Red Cross has a long tradition of working with military service members and their families and serves 1.4 million active duty personnel. They also reach out to the 1.5 million members of the National Guard and Reserves who reside in nearly every local community in America.

The Red Cross' booth will be set up in the West Concourse of the Tulsa Convention Center prior to the start of the game and will remain there throughout the game and fans are encouraged to stop by and show their appreciation for the armed forces.

Tickets for Friday's game with the Blazers are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.
