(3/10/03) The Laredo Bucks enter the final week of the Central Hockey League's regular season with a playoff spot locked up and an overall record of 39-16-6. The Bucks are aiming for their 40th win of the season Wednesday night, when the Bucks host Fort Worth at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The opening face-off is at 7:30pm, and tickets are still available. After Wednesday's game, the Bucks finish the regular season with road games at Corpus Christi on Friday and at Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday.

The Bucks will face the Odessa Jackalopes in the first round of the playoffs, starting the third week of March. Exact dates and times for the best-of-five series will be announced later this week. The Bucks will host at least one game at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

The Bucks traveled more than 3,200 miles in the last nine days, winning five of seven games played during that time. Andy Lundbohm led the Laredo offense with six points in the last four games. Goaltender Marc-Andre Leclerc recorded his first professional shutout on Tuesday with 17 saves in a 2-0 victory against the first-place Austin Ice Bats. Leclerc also stopped all four Fort Worth shooters he faced in Saturday's overtime shootout, which the Bucks won to claim a 5-4 victory against the Brahmas. The Bucks have won three of four meetings with Fort Worth this season.

In the American Hockey League, All-Stars Michel Periard and Eric Schneider continue to shine. Periard, a top candidate for Most Outstanding Defenseman in the CHL, has three goals and five assists in ten games with the San Antonio Rampage. Eric Schneider, the Bucks' representative in the CHL's MVP race, has seven goals and an assist in 15 games with San Antonio. Dave Gove, who was the CHL's leading scorer when he was called up in November, has nine goals and 18 assists in 61 games for the Rampage.
