Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers got offensive contributions from all three lines and another solid performance from goalie Shane Madolora to earn a 6-3 victory over the expansion Brampton Beast on Sunday evening at the BOK Center. After two wins in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, the Oilers finished off a weekend sweep and moved above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
At 2:22 of the first period, Ryan Cramer's shot squeezed between the legs of Beast goalie Kristofer Westblom and Alexandre Beauregard crashed the net to record his first goal of the season and first as an Oiler. With only 25 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Craig Cescon's snap shot rebounded off the pad of Westblom and Michel Beausoleil was there to guide the puck into the net. Tulsa led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
Brampton's comeback bid started very quickly in the second period. Josh McQuade found himself alone in front of Madolora and a quick backhand deke put the Beast on the board just 37 seconds into the frame. The Oilers answer came 20 seconds later when Drew Fisher darted across the Brampton crease and tucked the puck inside the post to restore Tulsa's two-goal advantage at 3-1. Jason Pitton pulled the Beast back within one at 2:21 and Mike MacIssac leveled the game at 3-3 at 7:12 when he tipped in a blast from the point by Erik Spady. The Oilers regrouped and regained the lead at 12:46 when Ryan Cramer tallied his fourth of the season with a rocket past the glove of Westblom. The home team carried a narrow 4-3 advantage into the final 20 minutes.
Kyle Bochek provided the Oilers' insurance goal at 2:50 of the third. Bocheck's initial shot was turned aside by Westblom but a second-effort backhand found the twine and put Tulsa back up by two goals. Madolora and the Oilers put the clamps down on the Beast offense for the remainder of the night and Beausoleil sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:18. Beausoleil's second goal of the night was his 100th goal as an Oiler and moved him into a tie for sixth place on the Oilers all-time points lists.
For the first time this season, the Oilers held an opponent without a power play and outshot the Beast 30-27. Tulsa, tops in the CHL in shots against, has limited its opponent to less than 30 shots in 10 of the 15 games this season.
Since starting the season 0-5-2, Tulsa has won seven of its last eight games and sits one point behind Denver for fourth place in the CHL standings.
The Oilers start a three game series against the Americans on Friday, November 22 in Allen at 7:05 p.m.
