Oilers Make Two Trades

February 13, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

The Tulsa Oilers made two trades on the deadline day for trades in the Central Hockey League, and also learned leading scorer Jaroslav Cesky may be out of action for up to four weeks.

The Oilers traded defenseman Todd Paul and right winger Korey Diehl to the Corpus Christi Rayz for forward Mike Lukajic and defenseman Doug Watkins. In another move, the Oielrs received defenseman Shawn Roed (pronounced ROAD) and future considerations, from the Austin Ice Bats in exchange for left winger Drew Otten.

In addition to the moves, the Oilers learned that leading scorer Jaroslav Cesky (30 goals, 33 assists, 63 points) sustained a broken arm when hit by the puck on Saturday night's 4-1 win in Wichita. Before that injury, Cesky had scored a goal and an assist in the game, which stretched his consecutive game point streak to 14 games, the longest streak in the CHL this season. Cesky could miss four to six weeks.

"We made some trades to upgrade our hockey team and make the playoffs," Oilers coach Butch Kaebel said.

Paul had played 40 games for the Oilers this season, scoring four goals and 17 assists. Diehl appeared in 42 games netting five goals and eight assists. Otten had played in all 45 Oiler games this season, with seven goals and nine assists.

Lukajic had 33 goals in his rookie season last year with Topeka. Splitting time this season between Oklahoma City and Corpus Christi, Lukajic has collected 10 goals and eight assists in 47 games. Watkins, a rookie defenseman, has two goals and three assists in 42 games. Roed comes to Tulsa after playing in 21 games for Austin and getting four goals and six assists.

The Oilers travel to Amarillo for a game Tuesday at 7 p.m., which can be heard on KMMY FM 97.1. The next home game for the Oilers is Friday February 17th, against Wichita at 7:35 p.m. For more information contact the Oilers at (918) 632-PUCK (7825).
