Jeff Christian Earns CHL Oakley Player of the Week for Second Time This Season

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach J.F. Laforest, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League (CHL), announced today that SteelHounds forward Jeff Christian has been named the CHL Oakley Player of the Week for the second time this season. The Hounds Captain totaled five goals and four assists in a week that saw the Hounds go 3-1 during four road games.

Christian started the week by scoring a pair of power play goals in the Hounds 5-4 shootout win at Tulsa, the first of eight straight games away from home for Youngstown. On Friday night, the SteelHounds player/assistant coach had a pair of helpers including helping on Joey Sewell's third period game winning goal in the team's 7-4 victory over Memphis. The next game for Youngstown was a 4-3 loss at Oklahoma City, the only blemish of the week for the Hounds. A game that saw the Burlington, Ontario native record his second two-assist game in a row. The week finished with a hat trick on Sunday in the team's 4-3 victory at Austin, a win that ended the Ice Bats 10-game home winning streak (one shy of equaling Austin's franchise high).

For the season, Christian leads the CHL with 42 goals, nine game winning goals and ranks second with 71 points and 17 power play goals. The all-star has a pair of three goal games and a four goal game this season and leads the Hounds with 22 multiple point games and 12 multiple goal games.

Christian is currently on a six-game point streak that has seen him score six goals with six assists over that stretch. It is the fifth time this season Christian has had at least a five-game point streak (his season high is eight straight games from November 20-December 7).

The Hounds look to improve on their solid start on their current road trip when they play the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Tuesday night at the CenturyTel Center.
