Tulsa Oilers News Release

WICHITA, KS - The Tulsa Oilers led the Wichita Thunder on two separate occasions on Saturday night but couldn't extend or maintain either advantage. Wichita scored four consecutive goals over the course of the second and third periods to hand the Oilers a 5-2 loss at Intrust Bank Arena.

Tulsa has dropped six games in a row and lost seven straight on the road.

Oilers center Gary Steffes scored the only goal of the first period when he found himself all alone in front of the Wichita net. Steffes deked Thunder netminder Kevin Regan and buried a backhand to give Tulsa the first goal of the game for the second night in a row.

Just 27 seconds into the second period, Les Reaney capitalized on an Oilers turnover and beat goaltender Mike Garman to even the score. The Oilers responded with a 2-on-1 tally from Ben Gordon at 9:53 to re-take the lead. Gordon, who recorded his team-leading 15th goal of the season, has scored in six of the last eight games. Again, the lead was short-lived for Tulsa. Only 46 seconds after Gordon's marker, Wichita defenseman Kevin scooped up a rebound and beat Garman with a wraparound. Before the middle frame ended, Dave Inman rocketed a blast from the point that Garman deflected over his own head and into the back of the net. The bad bounce signaled the end of the night for Garman who was lifted in favor of Ian Keserich.

The Oilers trailed by only one goal through most of the third period until the Thunder broke through with just over three minutes remaining. Matt Summers' shot was tipped in by Neil Trimm to provide Wichita a 4-2 cushion and less than a minute later, Trimm struck again with a backhand that put the game well out of reach.

Tulsa has lost in eight of its last nine trips to Wichita and is now 1-3-0 against the Thunder this season.

The Oilers will have a few days off before traveling to Quad City for a pair of games on December 21 and 22.
