Tulsa Oilers News Release
Memphis Walking In: The Tulsa Oilers square off against the Memphis RiverKings tonight in the second game of a three game homestand.
Records: Oilers are 23-20-4 with 50 points, in fourth place in the Northwest Division. Memphis is 18-26-2 with 38 points in third place in the Northeast Division.
Season Series: This is the sixth game between these two teams, who will meet two more times after tonight, with both of those games in Memphis. The last time the teams met on January 27th, they combined for 215 penalty minutes a season high for the Oilers. Tulsa has won three of the previous meetings, and is 3-1-1 against the RiverKings. Memphis is 2-3-0 against the Oilers.
Last Night: The Oilers raced to a 3-0 first period lead against Wichita, and then held off a comeback attempt and won 5-3. That moved Tulsa to within five points of Wichita for third place in the Northwest Division. Wichita currently holds the fourth playoff spot for the Northern Conference as well. Memphis fell behind Oklahoma City 3-0, cut the lead to 3-2 before eventually losing 6-2. That feisty contest featured 144 penalty minutes.
Good Start: Two players acquired in trades last week, scored goals for the Oilers last night, in their first home game for Tulsa. Mike Lukajic scored the Oilers second goal, and Shawn Roed scored the fourth goal, which proved to be the game winner. For Lukajic, it was his second goal in as many games as an Oiler.
Spreading The Wealth: the Oilers got goals form five different players last night, as Klage kaebel, Jim Dahl, and Henry Kuster joined Lukajic and Roed in the goal column. Kuster also added two assists for a three point night.
Captain Courageous: Oiler captain Dan Hodge is wearing a special Caps For Courage patch on his jersey tonight. All the captains in the CHL are wearing special jerseys which are being auctioned through the CHL website at the web site address: http://centralhockeyleague.com/merchandise/auction/. The Oilers local charity chosen to benefit from the auction is the Children's Miracle Network.
Next Up: The Oilers return to divisional play when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers on Tuesday night at 7:35. Memphis' next game is also Tuesday night, when the RiverKings will host the Lubbock Cotton Kings.
