Tulsa Oilers News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - Two weeks ago the Tulsa Oilers skated into Missouri and recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over the Mavericks. The fortunes of each club turned dramatically on Saturday night as the Mavericks flipped the script on the Oilers to the tune of a 5-0 drubbing at the Independence Events Center.

The Oilers, attempting to win three straight road games for the first time since March of 2011, fell behind at 11:58 of the first period. Mavs forward John-Scott Dickson fired a sharp-angle shot toward the Tulsa net that somehow found it's way through goaltender Shane Madolora. Trevor Kell gave Missouri a 2-0 advantage at 17:04 when his wrist shot sailed past the pad of Madolora and into the net. Tulsa was outshot 15-4 in the first period and fell to 1-16-2 this season when trailing after the opening frame.

The contest went from bad to worse for Tulsa in the second period. Missouri notched its second powerplay tally of the night when Kenton Miller swatted home a puck from the side of the net. Dickson recorded his second of the game at 14:46 with a laser-like shot over the glove-hand shoulder of Madolora to push the Mavericks lead to 4-0. Brandon Smith capped off the scoring with his sixth goal of the season at the 18:00 mark.

Dan Clarke relieved Madolora for the third period and the Oilers rookie made 13 saves on 13 shots. Madolora turned aside 28 shots through 40 minutes of action.

The Oilers, who still haven't won back-to-back games since early November, were shutout for the fourth time this season and dropped to 5-17-0 on the road. The five-goal margin is the worst loss the Oilers have suffered since an 8-3 setback to Bloomington on December 8.

Tulsa is back in action on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. for a face-off with the Denver Cutthroats at the BOK Center.
