Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Thanks to Shawn Szydlowski's lone conversion in the shootout, the Brahmas defeated the Bloomington Blaze by the score of 5-4 Friday night.
Fort Worth grabbed an early 1-0 lead at 7:22 of the first period when Chad Woollard received a Sy Nutkevitch feed on the doorstep and buried the puck past Bloomington netminder Dan Dunn. Friday night's contest was Woollard's 800th professional game, and his score was his 413th goal of his career and 13th this season.
The Blaze answered with two goals of its own to hold a 2-1 edge at the first intermission. Bloomington's first-period goals were scored by Kyle Bochek at 11:45 and Nicholas Rioux at 19:36.
The Brahmas evened the score just 2:20 into the second period when John Snowden ripped a wrister from the slot for his 14th goal of the season and 12th with Fort Worth.
Bloomington responded with back-to-back scores at the 4:54 and 6:46 marks from Bochek and Rioux, respectively. For each, it was his second goal of the game.
Before the end of the middle frame, Snowden found the back of the net for a second time, cutting the Brahmas' deficit in half heading into the third period.
8:20 into the third period, Adam Hogg lit the lamp for his 13th score of the season to tie the game at four goals apiece and send the contest into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period, Szydlowski converted on the first Brahmas attempt with a quick deke and score past Dunn. The St. Clair Shores, Minnesota native's goal was the only conversion in the shootout and his third game-winner of the season.
Kristofer Westblom (13-5-2) stopped 18 of 22 shots between the pipes for Fort Worth, earning his fourth consecutive victory. Dunn made 23 saves on 27 shots in a losing effort for Bloomington, falling to 5-5-2 in 2012-2013.
With Friday's win, the Brahmas are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. The team hosts the Rapid City Rush tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 at 7:30pm at the NYTEX Sports Centre. Fort Worth is 2-0-0 versus the Rush this season.
