Oilers Annual Teddy Bear Toss Set for Saturday Night
December 7, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers will hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, December 8 when they host the Bloomington Blaze at the BOK Center at 7:35 p.m.
All Oilers fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear, or any variety of stuffed animal, to throw onto the ice immediately after the Oilers score their first goal of the game. The bears will be collected and donated to the Salvation Army which will distribute the bears to underprivileged children throughout the Tulsa area.
"The Teddy Bear Toss is a popular event every single year," said Taylor Hall, Oilers General Manager. "It's grown every season and we're always amazed by the generosity of our tremendous fans who continue to support our team and give back to our community."
Many teams in Canadian minor and junior leagues have taken credit for starting the Christmas-time tradition and participation in the Teddy Bear Toss has spread to hundreds of hockey teams across North America. The Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, one of the teams to take credit for starting it all, recently hosted their 18th annual Teddy Bear Toss and collected more than 21,000 stuffed animals.
"It's pretty amazing to see what some other teams have been able to do," said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. "I'm always nervous as a coach that we won't be able to score a goal on teddy bear night but I've never been shutout in my career. I'm looking forward to seeing those animals rain down to the ice on Saturday night and I know our fans will turn out in great numbers."
The Oilers have three games on the schedule this weekend which will begin with a trip to Wichita on Friday to face the rival Thunder for the third time this season. The Oilers are back home Saturday for the Teddy Bear Toss before hitting the road to face Fort Worth on Sunday afternoon.
