WICHITA, KS - Wichita Thunder forward Neil Trimm broke open a close game in the second period with a natural hat-trick that lifted the Thunder to a 6-2 Central Hockey League victory over the visiting Tulsa Oilers.

After R.G. Flath put Wichita on the board just 39 seconds into the game, Oilers right wing Ryan Cramer responded with a one-timer that beat Thunder goalie Kevin Regan and evened the score. Thanks to a tip-in by Matt Summers at 5:15, Wichita took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The second period quickly turned into the Neil Trimm show. The fifth-year pro, who arrived in Wichita after spending last season in Laredo, found himself alone at the side of the Oilers net with only a minute off the second period clock. Trimm tapped in a loose puck for his tenth goal of the season and pushed the Thunder lead to 3-1. Five minutes later, Trimm led a rush into the Oilers zone and received a pass from Summers which he promptly blasted past Oilers goalie Ian Keserich. Trimm completed his hat-trick at 13:25 of the middle frame when his wrist shot whistled past Keserich's glove. The tally gave Wichita a 5-1 lead and ended the night for Keserich who was lifted in favor of Mike Garman. Keserich stopped 18 of 23 shots in 33 minutes of action.

Wichita forward Todd Griffith, who added another goal in the third period, engaged in a scuffle with Oilers right wing Ryan Menei in the game's closing minutes. With Menei's arms at his side, Griffith clocked the Oilers winger in the face and was given a match penalty for intent to injure. Tempers flared again before the final buzzer when Flath and Gary Steffes dropped the gloves.

The Oilers have lost four straight road games and have just one victory in their last eight trips to Wichita. Tulsa has allowed three or more goals in 11 straight games and has been outshot in 16 of 22 games this season.

The Oilers return home on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. to host the Bloomington Blaze.
