Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings (44-12-2-1) had a frantic third period comeback bid fall just short on Wednesday night as they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Saskatoon Blades (33-20-3-1) at Rogers Place.

The Blades got off to a quick start as Brandon Lisowsky opened the scoring for the visitors just 2:47 into the game as he was able to muscle in a wraparound.

The Oil Kings evened the scoring just past the midway mark of the period after the Blades gave the puck away below their goal line to Josh Williams, he found an open Jalen Luypen in the right-circle who snapped a shot past Nolan Maier for his 26th goal of the season.

In the second period, the Oil Kings outshot the Blades 17-10 but would be outscored 2-0 as the Blades took a two-goal advantage into the third period.

Tristen Robins, who scored both Saskatoon goals in the frame, got his first at 4:22 as he took a long-stretch pass from his goaltender Maier, sprinted into the left circle and ripped a shot short-side.

At 15:18 of the period, Robins bagged his second goal as he took a cross-ice pass from Kyle Crnkovic on an odd-man rush and slammed home the one-timer.

In the third period, Dylan Guenther was awarded a penalty shot just over three minutes in but was denied by Maier to keep the Saskatoon lead at two.

Robins would then complete his natural hat-trick at 4:55 of the period as he received a pass from Vaughn Watterodt in the high-slot and ripped the puck into the back of the net.

Justin Sourdif got the Oil Kings started on the comeback trail as he banged home a rebound off a Logan Dowhaniuk shot at the 7:12 mark for his 20th goal of the season.

Just over four minutes later, Luypen tallied his second goal of the contest as he took a pass in the neutral-zone from Luke Prokop, who was playing in his 200th career game, sped into the Saskatoon zone, dragged to the middle and put a shot past Maier to bring Edmonton within one.

In the final moments the Oil Kings pressed for an equalizer, but the Blades held firm in front of their goaltender and Tanner Molendyk sealed the victory with a shot into the empty-net.

Cossa finished the night with 22 saves, while Maier turned aside 43 for the Blades. The Oil Kings went zero-for-four on the power play, the Blades were zero-for-three.
