Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings weren't just breaking records on the ice this past Thanksgiving weekend, as they also made some significant achievements helping the community.
The Oil Kings set a modern franchise record on Monday when they beat the Prince George Cougars 8-7 in overtime for their fifth consecutive win. The team has had five previous four-game winning streaks, but Monday's dramatic victory established a new modern franchise best.
On top of setting a new winning streak record, the Oil Kings also raised the bar for their annual Stuff The Bus campaign. The team collected donations for Edmonton's Food Bank at Saturday and Monday's games at Rexall Place, and then delivered the donations to the food bank in the team bus on Tuesday.
When the bus had been unloaded and all the food had been collected, the total donation weight came in at 355 kilograms. The Oil Kings collected 275 kilograms with their 2009 campaign, so they improved on last year's total by a whopping 80 kilograms - by comparison, exactly the same weight as Oil Kings 176-pound defenceman Keegan Lowe.
And thanks to the Oil Kings partnering with Shaw and their "Together is Amazing" initiative for this year's Stuff The Bus campaign, the team's total weight collected will be matched by both Shaw and Campbell's for a grand total of 1,065 kilograms.
The next Oil Kings home game is Friday, Oct. 15, as they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7 p.m. at Rexall Place. Friday's game is Retro Night at Rexall Place, as the Oil Kings will unveil and play in their third jersey, and there will be a retro theme at the rink.
Individual game tickets for all Oil Kings home games are on sale now and start at just $15 in the ATB Financial Zone. Season seats start at less than $9 per game, with the addition of some new Mini-Packs and Flex Plans this season as well.Tickets are available at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at oilkings.ca, or by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625).
