Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Lethbridge AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings came out on the wrong end of a 4-1 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday night at the Enmax Centre.

The Oil Kings and Hurricanes played a fast-paced and action-filled opening 20 minutes, but it would be both goaltenders shining as neither yielded a goal.

Kolby Hay turned in 12 first period saves for the Oil Kings, while Harrison Meneghin was a little busier in the Hurricane crease making 16 saves.

The Hurricanes were able to break the scoreless deadlock just past the halfway mark of the second period as Cole Shepard broke into the Edmonton zone on a two-on-one rush and ripped a shot over the glove of Hay.

Edmonton wasted no time with their response however, as Nathan Pilling collected his first goal as an Oil King on a 4-on-3 power play after he walked the puck out of the right-corner of the Lethbridge zone and jammed the puck into the net 1:55 after the Hurricanes go-ahead goal.

The level score would be short-lived though as Shepard set Chase Pauls up for backdoor tap-in 2:29 after the Edmonton equalizer to restore the Lethbridge lead

In the third period, the Hurricanes were able to pull away from the Oil Kings thanks to a couple of late goals from Logan Wormald and Tristan Zandee in the final five minutes of regulation to snag the 4-1 victory.

Edmonton's best chance to tie the game in the period came midway through after Gavin Hodnett setup Braeden Wynne in the slot for a one-time blast that Meneghin was able to make a save on to keep his team in front.

Hay turned in 44 saves for the Oil Kings, while Meneghin made 26 for the Hurricanes. Edmonton went 1-for-2 on the power play, the Hurricanes were 0-for-1.

Next up, the Oil Kings are back at Rogers Place on Friday when they welcome the Swift Current Broncos to town for a 7:00 P.M. puck drop.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is Friday, December 16 when they play host to the Swift Current Broncos at 7:00 P.M.
