Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings had a late comeback bid halted on Tuesday night as they fell 4-2 to the Medicine Hat Tigers at Rogers Place.

The Oil Kings wasted no time opening the scoring against the Tigers as just 3:31 in, Rilen Kovacevic took a pass from Vojtech Port in the right circle of the Medicine Hat zone and ripped a shot over the left shoulder of Beckett Langkow, and just the crossbar, for his sixth goal of the season and first as an Oil Kings.

The Tigers leveled the score just under six minutes later on a power play after Oasiz Wiesblatt broke into the Edmonton zone and lasered a shot just inside the far post from the left-circle.

The shots in the first period favoured the Tigers 11-5 as the two teams entered the first intermission locked in a 1-1 tie.

In the second period, the Tigers through 25 shots the way of Oil Kings' goaltender Kolby Hay but were unable to solve him as the second-year tender turned in a handful of highlight reel saves to keep the game level at one through 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Tigers would finally find the go-ahead marker after Rhett Parsons converted on a backdoor pass on an odd-man rush into the Edmonton zone at 8:42 of the final period.

Tyler MacKenzie gave the Tigers some needed insurance less than three minutes later after he banged home a rebound following a breakaway save by Hay.

Noah Boyko tallied his first as an Oil King on a power play with just under 5:30 minutes left in regulation after walking the puck along the goal line, stepping in front of the Tiger net and stuffing the puck home.

The Tigers were able to quickly snuff out the Oil Kings comeback bid on a goal from Bogdans Hodass just a 1:21 later.

Hay finished the night earning first star honours as he made 43 saves for the Oil Kings, while Langkow picked up the victory with a 16-save performance. The Oil Kings went 1-for-3 on the power play, the Tigers were 1-for-4.

Next up, the Oil Kings hit the road to take on the Red Deer Rebels Friday night at 7:00 P.M.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is the 15th annual The Brick Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Global Edmonton, on Saturday at 7:00 P.M. against the Red Deer Rebels.
