Blades Avoid Wheat Kings' Comeback

SASKATOON S.K - The Saskatoon Blades avoid a Wheat Kings' comeback Tuesday night to win 5-4 in overtime.

The game didn't start well for the Wheat Kings who were under pressure early. Justin Lies would open the scoring for the Blades early to take a 1-0 lead under two minutes into the game. Ten minutes later Lies would find his line mate Conner Roulette with a cross ice pass allowing Roulette to score his 9th of the year making it 2-0 Blades. The Wheat Kings would get on the board late in the period with Calder Anderson stealing the puck away beating Ethan Chadwick top corner to make it 2-1 Blades heading into the second.

The Blades would restore the two-goal lead in the second frame with Tyler Parr taking a breakaway pass from Trevor Wong, Parr would fire a shot which Nick Jones was able to get a piece of but it trickled in to make it 3-1 Saskatoon Blades. The Wheat Kings would once again cut the lead with Andrei Malyavin firing a shot from the point which would go off the stick of Rylen Roersma and in to make it 3-2 Blades. The Blades would push right back with Jayden Wiens scoring off a scrum near the net to make it 4-2 heading into the third period.

The Wheat Kings turned on the jets in the third period scoring a pair to force overtime. First Brett Hyland was able to beat Ethan Chadwick with a backhand in the slot to cut the lead only 69 seconds into the period. Then, with the net empty and the extra attacker out, Nolan Ritchie would find Jake Chiasson with a cross ice pass to tie the game up with only 10 seconds remaining in the 3rd.

In overtime the Wheat Kings were unable to change properly allowing the Blades to take off on a two on one with Conner Roulette to score with the one timer to give the Blades the 5-4 victory. The Wheat Kings would get a single point for forcing overtime. Final shots 30-20 Blades.
