Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers opened their mini-two game Central Division road trip with a decisive 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings Tuesday Night at Rogers Place.

It would be the hometown team getting on the board first at 3:31 as Rilen Kovacevic would score his 6th of the season from a sharp angle past Tigers goaltender Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB). But the Tigers would begin an onslaught of offence that wouldn't be stopped, and they'd soon tie the game at 1-1 thanks to an Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) power play goal at 9:11 from Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) & Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK). The Tigers would go into the first intermission tied 1-1 after firing 11 shots toward Oil Kings starter Kolby Hay.

Off to the second period where Kolby Hay would put on a performance that stymied every member on the Tigers line-up in the second as he would go on to make 25 saves in the period and give the Oil Kings a fighting chance into the third as the game stayed 1-1 after 2. The Tigers would outshoot Edmonton 25-5 in the period.

Off to the third period where the Tigers would finally find a kink in Hay's armor as Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) would score his second goal of the season and first since September 24 in the Home Opener against Lethbridge on a one timer shot at the left circle beating Hay. Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) & Wiesblatt would notch assists. The Tigers kept coming as Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would be the benefactor of an Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) breakaway, jamming home the eventual rebound to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead for MacKenzie's 10th of the season. The Oil Kings wouldn't go away in the third as on a power play Noah Boyko would sneak into the slot and beat Langkow for his 6th the season to make it a 3-2 game with 5:36 to. But Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) would respond shortly after at with 4:15 left in regulation to give the Tigers a two-goal cushion with his 4th of the year. Basha would add his second point of the night and Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would get his point.

Despite an extra attacker, Edmonton would draw no closer as the Tiger doubled up the Oil Kings 4-2.

With the win the Tigers are now 10-13-4-1 while the Oil Kings drop their record to 4-23-1. The Tigers would finish the game outshooting the Oil Kings 47-18 and went 1/4 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

Next up for the Orange & Black is a stopover in Red Deer for their third meeting of the season against the Rebels where both teams have won in their opposing buildings and have a season series of 1-1.
