December 6, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs went scoreless for the second game in a row as they dropped the first of three December matchups against the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 Tuesday night.
The Thunderbirds kicked things off less than three minutes into the first period when Bryce Pickford picked up his second goal of the season unassisted to open the scoring.
The Chiefs kept Seattle at bay for the rest of the period, heading into the first break down by just one goal.
The Thunderbirds added on at 4:31 in the second with a goal from Kyle Crnkovic - his 12th of the year. Spokane's defense again held on for the remainder of the frame, as the Chiefs went into the third period with only a two-goal deficit.
Despite outshooting Seattle 16-5 in the third period, the Chiefs were unable to find the back of the net as Nico Myatovic put the game away with the Thunderbirds' third goal of the game at 19:43 on an empty net.
The Chiefs went 0-for-4 on the power play, but have slowly been improving on the penalty kill, going 4-for-4 tonight. Spokane outshot Seattle 36-27.
Rookie netminder Dawson Cowan got the start for Spokane and turned away 24-of-26 shots faced, earning second star honors.
Up next, the Chiefs hit the road for their trip to the eastern conference where they'll take on the Winnipeg ICE Friday night. Spokane will also face Brandon, Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert before the winter break.
