Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - The Edmonton Oil Kings were doubled up 6-3 by the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday night at Moose Jaw Events Centre.
After a scoreless first half of the opening period, the Oil Kings power play connected to give them an early 1-0 lead after Loick Daigle tipped in a blast from Vojtech Port for his third goal of the season.
Just over five minutes later, the Warriors got that goal back with former Oil King Logan Dowhaniuk pounding home a one-timer from the top of the right circle.
With under 30 seconds left in the period, the Warriors took the lead with a power play goal of their own with Jagger Firkus sifting a puck into the Edmonton net from the left-circle.
A quiet second period wouldn't see any scoring until less than five minutes left when both teams would turn on the goal light.
First, Firkus gave the Warriors a 3-1 lead after snapping in a shot from the slot off a pass from Ben Riche with 4:19 left in the middle stanza.
The Oil Kings answered right back as 2:21 later, Marshall Finnie and Jacob Hoffrogge worked together to get the puck to an open Mason Finley in front of the Moose Jaw net where he would deposit his eighth goal of the campaign to get Edmonton back to within one at the second intermission.
In the third period, the goals kept coming with the Warriors building to a 5-2 lead thanks to a hat-trick goal from Firkus and a Brayden Yager tally just 3:12 after the opening faceoff of the frame.
Gavin Hodnett got one of the goals back for Edmonton as he jumped on a turnover in the left-circle and ripped a shot top corner past the blocker of Jackson Unger but that was as close as the Oil Kings would get.
The Warriors closed the scoring on the night with six minutes left in the game after Atley Calvert tipped in a Ryder Korczak shot for the Warriors sixth goal of the night and second on the power play.
Logan Cunningham finished the night making 36 saves for Edmonton, while Unger turned in 17 for Moose Jaw. The Oil Kings went 1-for-3 on the power play, the Warriors were 2-for-4.
