The Winnipeg ICE opened a four game homestand at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena with an 8-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen Wednesday night.
Conor Geekie, the ICE ambassador for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Manitoba, led Winnipeg with a pair of goals. For every goal Geekie scores this season, Intouch CX donates $100 to RMHC in Geekie's name. Tonight was his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season.
Evan Friesen, Connor McClennon, Zack Ostapchuk, Owen Pederson, Ty Nash and Vladislav Shilo also scored as the ICE improved their record to 38-7-1.
Carter Yakemchuk and David Adaszynski replied for Calgary, who drop to 23-20-5-2.
Winnipeg outshot the Hitmen 35-24. Ostapchuk and Matthew Savoie led all players with five shots each.
Goaltender Daniel Hauser earned the victory while Ethan Buenaventura suffered the loss.
The two teams play again tomorrow (Thursday) night, 7:00 at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.
