Winnipeg, MB- The Calgary Hitmen began their East Division road trip with game one of a two-game set with the ICE in Winnipeg tonight.

Scoring was opened up by Evan Friesen and Conor Geekie putting Winnipeg up by two early. Carter Yakemchuk was able to put Calgary on the board scoring on the power play to cut the lead in half, but it was answered with one more from Connor McClennon before the end of the period regaining the two-goal lead for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg was able to double their goal count in the second period courtesy of Zack Ostapchuk, Owen Pederson and Conor Geekie. David Adaszsynki found the back of the net with under three minutes to go in the second making it 6-2 heading into the final frame. Two third period markers from Ty Nash and Vladislav Shilo increased the Winnipeg lead to six goals. The home team was able to keep Calgary off the score sheet for the remainder of the period, ultimately securing the 8-2 win over Calgary.

Shots finished up 35 - 24 in favour of Winnipeg. Second year forward Oliver Tulk reached the milestone of 100 career games.Calgary will face Winnipeg again tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 9. They will then have a day off before completing the three-game East Division trip in Brandon on Saturday, Feb. 11. Calgary then heads to Lethbridge (Feb. 15) and Edmonton (Feb. 18) before their next home game on Sunday, Feb. 19 against the Kamloops Blazers at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex.
