Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings General Manager Bob Green announced today the team has traded 20-year-old goalie Jon Groenheyde to the Swift Current Broncos.
The Oil Kings dealt the Surrey, BC native to the Broncos in exchange for an other over-age player in Jordan Peddle. In 35 career games for Edmonton, Groenheyde compiled a record of 14-14-2-3 plus he played in two of the Oil Kings playoff games in 2011 versus the Red Deer Rebels.
"The Edmonton Oil Kings would like to thank Jon for his time spent with us and wish him the best of luck with Swift Current." stated Green. "This is a good opportunity for Jon to get some valuable playing time. We're ready to move forward with our two younger goalies. With Jordan, we get a player who can play wing and centre and he'll provide some energy and a high level of competition to our roster. It's nice to add some depth like this with the current injury situation we have with some of our forwards."
Peddle has played a total of 198 career regular season games in the WHL picking up 24 goals, 40 assists and 254 penalty minutes along the way. He'll join the Oil Kings in time for their next home game Wednesday at home versus the Kootenay Ice.
It's another Wiener Wednesday presented by K97. Hot dogs are on sale all night for just $2. Oil Kings hockey is Edmonton's best family entertainment value. The 2011-12 season features new reduced pricing with great seats starting at just $15 and premium seating locations starting at just $20. The Oil Kings are also proud hosts of this year's World Junior Hockey Championship.
