Wheat Kings' Mark Stone Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Mark Stone of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 2 after producing nine points in three games scoring four goals with five assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

Stone capped off an impressive week with a four-point game on Saturday night in a 6-0 win over the Saskatoon Blades. He was named the first star of the contest netting his second career hat-trick and adding one assist. His week also included a two assist performance on Friday night despite a 5-4 shootout loss to the Swift Current Broncos, along with a three-point night against the Broncos on Wednesday where he scored the overtime-winner and added two assists leading the Wheat Kings to a 6-5 win.

Stone, a 19-year-old from Winnipeg, MB, is playing in his fourth full season with the Wheat Kings and currently leads the WHL in scoring with 13 points in five games. The Ottawa Senators prospect, selected in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, finished third in WHL scoring last season with 106 points.

Also considered for the award this week was Raphaël Bussières of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar who scored three goals and four assists for seven points in three wins for the Drakkar who currently sit in first place in the QMJHL standings. In the OHL, Seth Griffith was considered after scoring two goals and four assists for six points in two games and helping the Knights maintain a perfect record to start the 2011-12 regular season.
