Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The first period was the Saskatoon Blades undoing as they dropped a 11-3 affair to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night in Saskatoon.
"That first wasn't exactly what we wanted to have happen here tonight, we got ourselves behind and we weren't able to get ourselves right as the night went on," said interim Head Coach Ryan Marsh of the Blades' slow start.
The Blades would find the board twice through Team Captain Chase Wouters, who scored both goals on the power play. Kyle Crnkovic assisted on both goals, as did Tristen Robins to give him points in three games straight.
In the first period the Blades struggled with assignments in the defensive zone allowing two quick Tigers goals. Saskatoon showed some life as Randen Schmidt made a nice play and went to the forehand on a partial breakaway but was unable to convert. The Blades found themselves in some penalty trouble against the best power play team in the league as the Tigers went on to score three more goals to round out the period, including two with the man advantage.
The Tigers added another goal on the power play just over a minute into the second period before the Blades responded with a power play of their own with Wouters picking up a Crnkovic rebound for his 11th goal of the season. Medicine Hat added two more goals ahead of a second Saskatoon power play goal, also to Wouters. Robins' missed shot bounced off the back boards to Crnkovic on the opposite wing. There, Crnkovic sneakily found Wouters backdoor for a straightforward tap-in goal.
While Jayden Wiens, Colton Dach & Schmidt were rewarded with a goal to Wiens for their attempts to bring the energy late in the game, the Tigers were simply too good for the Blades and added another three goals to one in the final period to set the final score at 11-3 in favour for the visitors.
Saskatoon will practice over the next two days in preparation for welcoming the Kamloops Blazers into town on Friday night.
