Frederick Keys News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA. - Two four-run innings gave the Frederick Keys (24-22) their second-straight extra inning victory 8-4 over the Potomac Nationals (18-29) on Friday night at Pfitzner Stadium. After the P-Nats tied the game in the eighth to send the game to extra innings, the Keys tallied four runs in the 10th capped off by a two-run home run from J.C. Escarra. Jake Ring plated the winning run on an RBI triple and also hit a solo-home run in the third inning. The victory gives Frederick their fourth straight win which ties a season-high.

Tied 4-4 in the 10th inning, Ring hooked a triple down the right field line to score Sean Miller, who started the inning on second. Jomar Reyes then chopped a ball over David Masters' head at short to score Ring, and Escarra powered the two-run home run to give Frederick an 8-4 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, David Lebron (2-0) recorded a deep fly-out and then walked a pair of batters to load the bases. Diogenes Almengo (S, 4) needed just two pitches to get Masters to ground into a game-ending double play to seal the win.

Lebron struggled in relief, walking a career-high five hitters and allowing five hits but gave up just two runs in 4.1 innings. Jhonathan German (0-1) was charged with all four runs after he worked three frames in relief.

Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, the Keys got back-to-back home runs from Willy Yahn and Ring to take a 4-2 lead. After Jean Carrillo drew a walk and Miller singled, Yahn blasted a pitch off the scoreboard in left-center field for his fifth home run of the season. Ring followed with a solo home-run to right.

Blaine Knight was great after a rough second inning, where he allowed a pair of runs on two walks and a double. He retired seven straight and faced the minimum after erasing a base hit with an inning ending double play in the fifth.

Potomac's starter Andrew Lee also retired seven-straight before the big third inning. He struck out five and was charged with all four runs on four hits over five innings.

Lebron came in relief of Knight and struggled throughout his outing. In the seventh, Lebron faced runners at second and third with one-out. Gage Canning smoked a line drive right at Lebron, who caught it and doubled-up the runner at third.

Potomac was able to score a pair in the eighth innings to tie the game 4-4. Nick Banks led off with a double and was knocked in on Aldrem Correder's RBI single. Lebron then allowed a walk and a hit to load the bases. On a 3-2 pitch, Lebron threw ball four to walk in the tying run. Both teams failed to score in the ninth to send the game into extras.

The Keys and P-Nats will square off next on Saturday, May 25. RHP Cody Sedlock (3-0, 1.63) starts for Frederick opposite RHP Malvin Pena (2-3, 8.73) for Potomac. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app with pregame coverage starting at 6:20 p.m.
