SALEM, Va. - Winston-Salem rallied back from early deficit on Friday night at Haley Toyota Field, but the Dash dropped their series opener 8-6 against the Salem Red Sox.

The Red Sox (18-28) jumped out to an early lead against Dash starter Konnor Pilkington. Following three consecutive singles to start the bottom of the first, Pedro Castellanos lofted a sacrifice fly to make it a 1-0 contest. Following a strikeout to Garrett Benge, Marcus Wilson blasted a three-run homer to right to put Salem ahead 4-0.

Salem added two more runs in the third when Tanner Nishioka stroked a two-run double to put the Red Sox up 6-0.

However, the Dash (24-23) battled back in the fourth against Jhonathan Diaz. After Craig Dedelow walked to begin the frame, Carlos Perez grounded a double down the left-field line to put runners on second and third.

Jordan George plated Winston-Salem's first run on a groundout, and JJ Muno lined a run-scoring single to left to make it a four-run contest. Nick Madrigal capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.

The Dash inched a run closer on an RBI double from George in the fifth, and the Dash tied the ballgame in the seventh against Hunter Smith. With the bases loaded, Muno drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to one. Later, with the bases still loaded and Andrew Schwaab (1-0) on the mound, Tyler Frost drew a hit by pitch to knot the contest at six.

However, the Red Sox quickly reseized the edge in the bottom of the seventh. With runners at the corners and one out against Codi Heuer (2-1), Castellanos recorded a go-ahead single to bring in Jarren Duran, who finished 4-for-4 with a walk. Wilson capped the scoring with a run-scoring single.

Winston-Salem continues its four-game set against the Red Sox on Saturday night. Left-hander Cristian Castillo (2-5, 3.95 ERA) takes the hill against Salem right-hander Dylan Thompson (0-2, 3.86 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
