Offense Tamed as Revs Denied Sweep in Bridgeport

York Revolution News Release
(Bridgeport, Ct.) - The high-octane York Revolution offense was tamed on Thursday night, as the Revs were held to just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Bridgeport Bluefish at Harbor Yard. York's four-game winning streak is snapped as the Revs are denied the series sweep. The first place Revs (25-16) return home to open a six-game homestand when they host the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday night.
York's only run came in the top of the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1 at the time. After being held without a baserunner through three innings, Alfredo Marte led off the fourth with a single to right, and Michael Rockett reached on a swinging bunt hit. With one out, Andres Perez cracked an RBI double down the left field line, extending his season-best hitting streak to seven consecutive games. York seemed poised to go in front with runners at second and third, but with the infield in, Keith Castillo was rung up on a contested called third strike, and Bryan Pounds was also punched out on a check swing as the inning came to a close. It was the only inning all night in which the Revs were not set down in order.
Bridgeport struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out RBI ground rule double down the right field line by Jose Cuevas.
The Bluefish responded to York's tying run with an unearned tally in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on base by way of an error, Connor David kept the inning alive on a single to center, and ninth place hitter Luis Nunez cashed in on an RBI single to left, giving Bridgeport the 2-1 lead.
Bridgeport tacked on insurance runs on an RBI single to right by David in the sixth, and a two-out RBI double to left off the bat of Jonathan Galvez in the seventh.
Bluefish starter Jonathan Albaladejo (3-2) was outstanding in the win, retiring his first nine batters and his final 11 to hold York in check over his seven innings. Giving up just three hits, he walked none and struck out six, avenging a loss suffered in York on May 4.
Eric Niesen and Taylor Thompson (first save) each logged perfect frames to close it out, as Bluefish pitchers combined to retire the last 17 York batters.
Kelvin De La Cruz (3-5) worked a season-high seven innings for a quality start despite suffering the loss. Touched for 12 hits, the lefty walked none and struck out only one, pitching to contact all night and giving up four runs but only three earned. The seven-inning effort matches the longest of the season by a Revs starting pitcher.
Beau Vaughan turned in a scoreless eighth out of the Revolution bullpen.
Notes: York's three hits ties a season-low for the third time (May 7 at Southern Maryland, May 22 at New Britain). The 17 consecutive hitters retired is one short of matching the longest streak in a game in team history. Joel Guzman saw a season-best nine-game hitting streak snapped, while Josh Wilson saw his season-high eight-gamer halted. York's 25-16 record is still the Atlantic League's best, and the franchise's best ever through 41 games by one victory ahead of the 2014 club. It is York's first loss of the season against Bridgeport after six consecutive head-to-head victories. De La Cruz' outing was his longest since a seven-inning performance in the Mexican League on April 12, 2015. At two hours and 11 minutes, the game fell four minutes shy of matching the Revs' shortest nine-inning game of the season. York lefty Frank Gailey (1-0, 0.00) faces Lancaster right-hander Tanner Peters (1-1, 5.23) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Revs' first home game of this year's War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank. The first 1,500 fans receive a bobblehead of NFL Hall-of-Famer and York High graduate Chris Doleman as part of the "Celebrate York" Series presented by Memorial Hospital. Doleman will make an appearance on what is also York High Alumni Night at PeoplesBank Park. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
