Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (14-26) defeated the York Revolution (25-16) 4-1 Thursday night at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard to salvage the finale of a three game midweek series. The win saw the 'Fish retire the side in order eight of nine times against York, including the final 17 batters as Bridgeport wraps up a seven game homestand on a very positive note. The loss for the Revolution concludes a four game winning-streak, as the Freedom Division leaders muster only three hits on the evening after collecting 23 in the previous two matchups.
Bridgeport's Jonathan Albaladejo (3-2) gained his third win of the season, allowing just a single run in seven innings on the mound, striking out a season-high six batters. Taylor Thompson picked up his first save in 2016, striking out one as he erased the final three batters of the game in order. York's Kelvin De La Cruz (3-5) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on twelve hits in seven innings pitched, striking out a batter in the process.
The 'Fish got on the board immediately, as a ground rule double to right by Jose Cuevas allowed Luis Hernandez to score the game's first run in the home half of the first inning. The teams would exchange runs in the fourth, as Andres Perez tied things up with a ground rule double driving Alfredo Marte home in the top of the inning, followed by an RBI single by Bridgeport's Luis Nunez in the bottom of the frame, giving the Bridgeport a 2-1 lead. The Bluefish put up two more insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings, as Connor David and Jonathan Galvez both contributed RBI base knocks. York's comeback effort was shut down by the combined pitching efforts of Albaladejo, Eric Niesen, and Taylor Thompson as Bridgeport was victorious for the first time in the month of June. The offensive efforts for the Bluefish were led by David, who put forth three hits and an RBI on four at-bats, as the 'Fish collected ten or more hits in a game for the 14th time this season. After hitting the road to face the Somerset Patriots in a three game weekend series, the Bluefish will be back in action at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard Tuesday June 7th when they open up a three game series and a seven game homestand against the Lancaster Barnstormers. First pitch scheduled for 7:12 P.M. It will be Insurance Night and Service Club Night, as well as $2 Tuesday, where hot dogs and other selected concession items are just $2!
