New Britain Bees News Release
(Sugar Land, TX.)- On a stormy night in Sugar Land, the bats of the New Britain Bees provided some thunder early in the game and the pitching staff made it hold up as the Bees topped the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-1 in the finale of the series and seven-game road trip.
PITCHERS OF RECORD
W: Cole Johnson (4-3) | L: Barrett Loux (0-2)
Following a rain delay that pushed the start of the game back 40 minutes, the Bees ambushed Skeeters' right-hander Barrett Loux in the first inning. Steve Carrillo started the inning off with a double, which not only immediately put Loux into immediate trouble but also extended his hitting steak to nine straight. After Michael Crouse reached first after getting hit by a Loux offering, Jovan Rosa promptly cleared the bases with his fifth home run of the year, putting the Bees up 3-0 after one.
New Britian refused let its foot off the gas, bringing home two more runs the very next inning. After Jon Jones reached base on an error by Skeeters' second baseman Delwyn Young, Anthony Hewitt extended his hit steak to six in a big way, launching a two-run homer off Loux to put the Bees up by five. Hewitt would also tack on an RBI single in the sixth, finishing 2-4 with the home-run and three RBIs.
While the Bees had their offense firing on nearly all cylinders tonight, the same could not be said for the Skeeters against right-hander Cole Johnson. Johnson continued his dominance of Sugar Land this season, shutting the Skeeters out for a season-high eight innings, allowing only three hits and no walks to pick up his fourth win of the year.
The Bees return to New Britain tomorrow to start a three-game weekend series with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Right-hander Josh Zeid will get the ball to start the series for the Bees. Tomorrow at New Britain Stadium is also Foul Pole Friday, where one lucky fan will have the chance to win $50,000 if a designated Bees' player hits a home run off the foul pole during the game, and the second postgame pyrotechnics show will be held.
Bees Buzz: Cole Johnson has not allowed a run in 15 innings of work over two starts against the Skeeters this season (five hits, two walks, nine strikeouts)...Michael Crouse drove home the Bees' seventh and final run of the game with a run-scoring single in the ninth...The Bees finished their seven-game road trip 4-3, splitting the four game set with Long Island and taking two of three from Sugar Land...
