Offense Struggles to Back Solid Pitching in Loss

Toledo Mud Hens News Release

After losing the Friday game in high scoring fashion, the Hens were on the wrong side of a low scoring affair Saturday night. The Louisville Bats didn't put a single hit on the board until the sixth inning, but they were able to get a run in the inning to win a 1-0 contest over Toledo. After being packaged to the Detroit Tigers in a trade that sent David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays, highly touted left-hander Matt Boyd made his first start with his new organization.

Boyd made the first Mud Hens' start of his young career on Saturday night, and was on a pitch count limit. In the first inning, Boyd, a marksman on the mound, ran into some trouble with his command. He walked three in the inning, but managed to get out of the jam without allowing any runs. In the second inning, Boyd got himself back on track. He threw an easy one-two-three inning including a strikeout, and was done after throwing 40 pitches.

The Mud Hens had some early offense, but didn't get any runs to show for it. In the second inning, Steven Moya singled, but was thrown out stealing while Daniel Fields was batting. Fields immediately singled on the next pitch, but was then thrown out stealing with Trayvon Robinson hitting to end the threat. Toledo was only able to tally four hits on the night, with Moya posting his second straight two-hit game.

Toledo finishes off their short road trip on Sunday with a 6:05 p.m. game against the Louisville Bats. They return to the friendly confines of Fifth Third Field on Monday for the start of a seven game home stand.
