Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA- The Gary South Shore RailCats pounded out 14 hits in a 15-8 win over the Sioux City Explorers on Wednesday night.
The Explorers took a first inning lead after a two-run homer from Brock Kjeldgaard. The Cats bounced right back in the top of the second as Ryan Babineau drove in a pair with a base hit. Drew Muren drew a bases loaded walk to push in a run and an error by Amos Ramon led to another. Zac Mitchell capped off a five-run inning with an RBI sacrifice fly to put the Cats in front 5-2.
After Sioux City got a run in the second and a pair in the fifth, Muren hit his second two-run shot in as many nights to extend the lead back to 8-5. Danny Pulfer followed with a double and Drew Martinez singled to left field, leading to an error by Oscar Mesa that allowed Pulfer to score. Craig Maddox provided a two-RBI double to make it 11-5 and give the Cats their second five-run inning of the game.
Henry Wrigley delivered another RBI in the eighth inning, his ninth in three games with the Cats, driving in Mitchell with a double. An error by Sioux City's pitcher Chris Bodishbaugh later allowed Wrigley to score, making it 13-5.
The Explorers got to the Cats' bullpen in the eighth to push across three runs and cut the deficit to 13-8. Wally Backman led off the ninth with a home run, his third of the season. The fourth error of the night by Sioux City, this one committed by Tommy Mendonca, made it 15-8. The Explorers went quietly in the ninth to end the game and a 15-8 win for the RailCats.
For the second time in three games, the RailCats got at least one hit from every starter. Babnineau and Muren led the way with three RBI apiece. The RailCats and Explorers will finish off the three game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Dan Vaughan will have the call on WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com/live.
