Curtain Closes on Midway with New Attendance Record

ST. PAUL, MN - The old girl had one more left in her. One more night of laughs. One more night of crazy promotions. And one more night to make a few memories. It will go down in the history books as a 4-3 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes, but in the process on Thursday night the Saints set a new franchise record of 9,455 in their final game at Midway Stadium. It brought their season total to 248,106 the most since 2009.

The Saints started the party with a bang in the first inning when Mitch Elliott led off with an infield single. With one out Willie Cabrera sent the crowd into a frenzy with a two-run homer to left, his 12th of the season, to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

The Goldeyes tacked on a run against Saints starter Anthony Claggett in the fourth when Brock Bond led off with a single. With one out Tyler Kuhn doubled him to third and Casey Haerther's sacrifice fly made it 2-1.

The Saints would get the run back in the bottom of the inning as Jake Taylor drew a leadoff walk. Joe Bonfe reached on catcher's interference and Tyler Peterson sacrificed the runners over. A Joey Becker sacrifice fly gave the Saints a 3-1 lead.

It stayed that way until the seventh when the Goldeyes got to Claggett with one big blow. Reggie Abercrombie led off with a double and Donnie Webb walked. Josh Mazzola then hit a fly ball that carried over the wall in left for a three-run homer, his 14th of the season, to give the Goldeyes a one run lead. Claggett went 7.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five.

The Saints finished 573-426 all-time at Midway.

The Saints head to CommunityAmerica Ballpark to take on the Kansas City T-Bones in a five game series that begins with a double header on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Ben Hughes (4-2, 5.71) to the mound in game one and are TBA in game two. The T-Bones send RHP Jared Messer (4-3, 5.03) to the mound in game one and are TBA in game two. Both games are scheduled for seven innings and game two begins approximately 30 minutes at the conclusion of game one. Both games can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
