Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Gary South Shore RailCats dropped their series with the Sioux City Explorers, falling 6-1 on Thursday night.

The Explorers started the scoring in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Tommy Mendonca. Amos Ramon hit into a double play but another run came across for Sioux City to make it 2-0. Oscar Mesa tripled home a run in the fifth to extend the Explorers lead.

The Cats got their first run in the seventh as Sioux City's spotty defense continued to hurt them. Wally Backman took advantage of a Rene Tosoni error as he followed with an RBI single, making it 3-1. The Explorers did not let the Cats hang around for long, scoring three runs in the bottom half. Tosoni had a two-RBI base hit and Mendonca added a sacrifice fly to score a run and put Sioux City ahead 6-1.

The Cats could not put together another offensive push, dropping the rubber match of the series by a final score of 6-1. Josh Romanski was the only RailCat with a multi-hit night and Backman recorded the lone RBI. The RailCats won just seven out of 18 meetings with Sioux City this season. The RailCats start their final series of the regular season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday night at 7:00. Dan Vaughan has the call on WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com/live.
