MIDLAND, MI - The Beloit Snappers got two hits, including a two-run homer, three RBIs and two runs scored from Matt Olson as they hammered the Lansing Lugnuts, 11-6 in Midwest League action on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Beloit's third straight win puts them at 14-12, the first time this year they've reached two games over .500. Lansing falls 8-18 with their third straight loss.

The top of the first inning set the tone for the rest of the night, as the Snappers scored three times to immediately gain the upper hand. A Brett Vertigan lead-off double was followed by an RBI single by Christopher Bostick. Bostick eventually scored on an error and Olson made the score 3-0 with a sacrifice fly. The Lugnuts responded by pushing across two of their own, one thanks to Chris Hawkins' RBI triple and another on an error.

Beloit's big bats made their first appearance in the third when, with a man on, Renato Nunez hit one that cleared the left field wall for his sixth home run. The next batter was Olson, who singled and was able to score on a Chad Lewis double and an error by left fielder Dwight Smith.

After a run-scoring single by Gustavo Pierre in the bottom of the third cut the lead to 6-3, John Wooten and Olson each blasted two-run homers in the fourth and the lead was stretched to seven.

In their half of the fourth, Lansing put up two runs as Christian Lopes smacked an RBI double and Dalton Pompey crossed the plate on a groundout, but Beloit got one of those runs back an inning later on another RBI single by Bostick.

Through all of this, Snappers starter Raul Alcantara (4-1) hung tough and persevered through six innings, allowing 12 hits, but only two earned runs. He walked only one and totaled three strikeouts.

A solo homer by Pierre to start the seventh brought his team to within five, but that was the last run that either team would score. Kris Hall relieved Alcantara in the seventh and also pitched the eighth and Tucker Healy put a bow on things with a scoreless ninth.

The Snappers will hand the ball to RHP Michael Ynoa (0-0, 1.29 ERA) on Sunday to take on RHP Taylor Cole (1-2, 4.44 ERA) in the second of three in Lansing. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:05pm CT.
